What's Involved
A chance to have a go at a few competition categories without the stress.
Registration is on the day between 4pm and 4:20pm with the first event starting at 4:30pm.
There'll be regular breaks for a bit of social dancing and then a longer section of about an hour at the end to chill out.
There are four categories:
- Dance with a stranger (DWAS) - no partner needed
- Lucky Dip - no partner needed
- Freestyle
- X Factor
Categories
Lucky Dip and X Factor will be one level whereas Freestyle and DWAS will be split into 2 levels on the day.
You can only enter each category once. (So you have to choose if you will lead or follow in each category, you can't do both)
FREESTYLE
For this category you enter with a partner of your choice.
There will be many couples on the floor at the same time.
You don't know what music will be played.
You will have approximately 2 minutes of a song to dance to in each round.
DWAS
For this category you enter on your own and will dance with multiple partners.
You don't know what music will be played.
You will be paired up on the floor in a circle. There will be many couples on the floor at the same time. The followers will rotate around the circle like in class, dancing with each partner for about 40 seconds each.
LUCKY DIP
For this category you enter on your own and will be paired with one partner.
We will randomly pair everybody in this category with a partner.
There will be many couples on the floor at the same time.
You don't know what music will be played.
You will have approximately 2 minutes of a song to dance to in each round.
X FACTOR
For this category you enter with a partner of your choice.
There will be many couples on the floor at the same time.
You don't know what music will be played.
You can only dance beginner moves that have been approved for this competition that will be on a set list (to be released shortly).
You will have approximately 2 minutes of a song to dance to in each round.
Only the following moves are allowed for X Factor:
- Backpass
- Break thru
- New Yorker
- Short First Move
- Travelling Return
- Wurlitzer
- Yoyo
