Connect at Refresh
A main focus of Refresh is fostering the dance community and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment.
From the Refresh Teams to the evening dance parties, from Lucky Dip to social dancing between competition events, we can connect with our fellow dancers throughout the weekend.
Refresh Teams
If we're not competing then the next best thing is to cheer someone else on and give lots of encouragement! So we're putting everyone into teams made up of all the competitors. This was a resounding success at Refresh 23.
You may have come across teams in Modern Jive where dancers perform to a choreographed routine, at Refresh, teams refer to the six or so groups that are made up of all the competitors.
Each competitor will be randomly assigned to a team. You'll probably know a number of your team mates but chances are there'll be a few whom you've never met or danced with before.

Each team has a team captain who will help members prepare for the weekend and facilitate who enters which Team Challenges.
Team members earn points for their team in a variety of ways:
- Attending workshops
- Competing and placing in events
- Social dancing until the last song of the evening
- Loudest cheering and more!
Connect in Lucky Dip
One of the competition categories is Lucky Dip where we pair people up with semi-random partners. We aim to mix the various dance studios so that dancers are with someone they may not have met before. Many a dance connection has started with Lucky Dip!

Social Dancing
Dance weekends are a great way to meet new friends on the social dance floor and connect with dancers from different studios.
Friday Dance Party
We have dancing from 7:30pm through to 11:30pm.
At 9:30pm there will be performances from our incredible invitational couples. We have tasked them with showing us what they think the 'coolest' version of Modern Jive is. This is unjudged, and we've given them complete freedom - choreographed or not? They decide!
Saturday Dance Party
Doors open at 7:45pm for 8pm and we dance until midnight! We'll have mood lighting - not just a stadium with the lights on full.
The Level 4 Dance with a stranger final will be around 8:30pm.
Competition Social Dancing
Throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday we'll have plenty of songs for everyone to social dance to.
Sunday Social Dancing
After prize-giving we'll dim the lights to wind down the weekend until 6pm.

Little Wolf Studio
Felicity crafts playful jewellery and art from her home in Ōtautahi under her brand Little Wolf Studio. Felicity's work is inspired by her inner child, wild imagination, and love of nature, and aims to spread happiness using fun, colour, and whimsy.
A crowd favourite is her unique range of hand painted laser cut wooden jewellery, featuring cute critters, kiwiana and tasty treats.
She can't wait to share her work with our amazing dance community this weekend!
