Prepared Freestyle

Prepared freestyle is somewhere in between pure freestyle and a showcase / choreographed dance. Dancers will be able to choose a piece of music from a given list, choose a section about 2 minutes long and are welcome to prepare, choreograph or freestyle as much of their dance as they wish.

  • Your partner can be the same person you are dancing with in the Freestyle category
  • The sum of the levels of each partner must be in range 5 or above (e.g. 2 + 3, 3 + 3, 4 + 1 etc.)
  • All moves are allowed including full aerials
  • Couples will perform their dance on Friday evening and prizes will be awarded on Friday night
How it works

Couples will dance to their chosen song as a spotlight on the Friday night.

We have 9 couples this year and it would take just as long having a repechage as it would giving them all a shot - so there'll be one final with 9 couples 🙂

Your lit floor area is 8m x 5m with the longest side facing the audience.

Allowable Moves

All moves are allowed but the Death Spiral can only be used in the final.

Specific Judging Criteria

Given that couples will have two weeks to prepare their freestyle, judges will also be looking at how each couple reflect their song in their dancing through musicality and / or choreography.

Each couple will choose a piece of music from a list of songs which will be released two weeks before the competition on Friday, 7 Apr 7:00pm. Each couple must use a different song. First in, first served.

Couples can choose a section of the song approximately 2 minutes in length which will be edited by the organiser for the performance. The section can start at any point in the song.
