Christchurch Modern Jive Championships

Prepared Freestyle

Rules Judging

Prepared freestyle is somewhere inbetween pure freestyle and a showcase / choreographed dance. Dancers will be able to choose a piece of music from a given list, choose a section about 2 minutes long and are welcome to prepare, choreograph or freestyle as much of their dance as they wish.

  • The sum of the levels of each partner must be in range 5 or above (e.g. 2 + 3, 3 + 3, 4 + 1 etc.)
  • All moves are allowed including full aerials

How it works - In general

  • There will be a maximum of 6 couples competing
  • Couples will dance to their chosen song as a spotlight on the Friday evening.

Floor Dimensions

The dance floor will be at least 18m wide x 12m deep.

πŸ“‹ Judging Criteria

Given that couples will have two weeks to prepare their freestyle, judges will be looking at how each couple reflect their song in their dancing through musicality and / or choreography.

🎡 Music

Each couple will choose a piece of music from a list of songs which will be released at least two weeks before the competition. Each couple must use a different song. First in, first served.

Couples can choose a section of the song approximately 2 minutes in length which will be edited by the organiser for the performance. The section can start at any point in the song.
