The Christchurch Modern Jive Championships is one of the most popular Modern Jive competitions in Australasia with a spacious well presented venue that's a favourite with dancers.
We have a 3 day format where you can join us for a day or all three. There's a friendly atmosphere with a great variety of music to suit everyone.
We're back at the Ara Rec Centre with its convenient central city location. There are plenty of hotels, shops and cafes all within easy walking distance.

We've aligned our times with domestic flights so dancers can optionally fly in Saturday morning.
- On Saturday the first event starts at 10:45am
- On Sunday the first event starts at 9:45am with the last final around 3pm

Friday
Join us for the start of the weekend with our welcome party and first event.
- Doors open 7:15pm
- Large dance floor
- Casual seating
- Meet your Lucky Dip partner
Friday Event
- Prepared Freestyle at 9pm
The welcome party finishes at 11pm.
Saturday
Saturday has a range of events during the day with the excitement of the finals taking place in the evening.
- Doors open 9:30am
- First event at 10:45am
- Regular breaks for social dancing
Saturday Events
- Freestyle, Dance with a stranger (DWAS)
- Partner Blind, Big Moves, Triples
- Teams, Showcases
Social dancing ends at midnight.
Sunday
After a big day of competing, Sunday has a great vibe that perfectly complements the previous day with another great mix of events.
- Doors open 9:00am
- First event at 9:45am
- Music Mashup, Lucky Dip, Steals, 45+
- Social dancing throughout the day
- Last event around 3pm
We wrap up Sunday with a nice chunk of social dancing until 5:00pm.

Spectators
Spectators are welcome throughout the weekend.
- Friday party dancer: $20
- Friday performers friends & family: free if booked in advance
- Saturday until 6pm: free entry
- Saturday after 6pm: $10
- Sunday: free entry

If you're visiting from out of town or even if you're local and want time to recover then we encourage you to maybe include our Champs as part of a mini break or holiday.
